Langtang region trekking is a very popular touristic destination to the north of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Langtang is one of the nearest trekking sites from the capital. It offers an unique experience because of its combination of natural beauty and very rich cultural. Langtang has over 70 glaciers of different sizes, including the Langtang and Ganesh Himal mountain ranges and high altitude lakes such as Gosaikunda, Parvatikund, Bhairavkunda, Dudhakunda etc. The Langtang comprises of many peaks. They include: Langtang Lirung (7246m), Dorje Lakpa (6966m), Morimoto (6750m), Dragmarpo Ri (6578m), Kimshung (6500m), Langshisha Ri (6427m), Ganchempo (6387m), Naya Kanga (5846m), Yala Peak (5520m), Surya Peak (5144m), Tsergo Ri (4982m), Chyarkung Chuli (4858m) and Cholangpati Danda (4788m). The Langtang Lirung (7246m) is the highest peak.The Langtang National Park is the second largest national park of ten parks in Nepal. About 25 per cent area of the park is covered by the forest. The park extended up to the Tibetan border, is a good example of biodiversity, containing a wide variety of climate zones from subtropical to alpine. The park comprises of around 15 forest types, 3000 species of flowering plants, including Oaks, Blue Pine and various types of Rhododendron. This is also known as a rich area from medicinal plants. In addition, 32 mammals and 283 species of birds are found in the park, including Himalayan black bear, the clouded leopard, musk deer, snow leopard, wild do etc. Among 4,500 people living inside the Langtang National Park, Tamang indigenous peoples are the majority of the residents in this area. Therefore, Langtang area is culturally rich as it consists of Tamang art and culture, including the Buddhist spiritual sites kyangin Gompa and Singgompa and the historic fort of Rasuwagadi in the China-Nepal border. The Gosaikunda lakes, sacred to Hindus, in the park area is visited by both Hindu and Buddhist in August every year.
