About Gokyo Lake Trek

Gokyo Lake Trekking trails eventually leads you to the famous point of Gokyo Ri (Gokyo Peak) from where you can have a awe-inspiring view of hundreds of pleasing scenery.

Gokyo Lake Trek is less crowded, Scenic, slightly easier alternative route to Everest Base Camp trek and It offers magnificent view of the mountain peaks and the , the largest glacier in the Nepal Himalayas (Ngozumpa Glacier). It includes most popular mountains views of the northwest face of Mt. Everest (8848m), set amongst other giants like Mt. Cho-Oyo (8201m), Mt. Lhotse (8501m), Mt. Makalu (8463m) etc. which are clearly visible in a panorama from Gokyo Ri (5483m) above Gokyo Lake.

This short trekking route is designe for those who have a limited time to discover the most famous beauties of  Khumbhu region. Set amongst breath-taking high mountain scenery, the route leads through the Sherpa community. Gokyo Lake Trek can be done in two different routes that is Renjo Pass trek or an alternative itinerary with out high pass. Trekking mountain trails to Gokyo is a gradual ascent up the valley passing through patches of birch and rhododendron forest where the elusive musk deer can sometimes be seen. Through small yak-grazing settlements, we reach the Gokyo lakes.

After a 35min short Mountain flight to Lukla, follow the Everest Base Camp trail for two days to Namche Bazaar, a rest and acclimatization day. Walk to the friendly Sherpa village of Khumjung to explore their lifestyle, culture and beliefs. After 3 days of trek from sherpa village will lead you to Gokyo Valley. The Gokyo Peak (5480m) ascent is the one of the highlights of this circuit. We stay here to savor the incredible scenery, including magnificent views of Everest (8848m), Makalu, Cho Oyo (8153m) and Lhotse (8511m), to name but a few. But on the other hand , the Renjo Pass route is off the usual beaten track. At the pass, a great view of the Gokyo lakes on one side, the RermoPokhari lakes on the other side, and a myriad of snowy peaks in the background provides this incredible atmosphere. The alternative route is much easier. From Gokyo, the trail descends along the opposite bank of the Dudh Kosi.

Difficulties of Gokyo Lake Trek

It is a physically challenging task to ascend Gokyo Ri. Trekking in Everest region is awe-inspiring and Gokyo lake trek in the region is full of excitement and thrill. Besides mountain peaks and narrow trekking trail, the view of Ngozumpa Glacier, World's highest lake- Gokyo Lake and Gokyo Ri is the major attraction of Gokyo valley trek. Food and accommodation during Gokyo Lake Trek

Regarding the foods, all kinds of meals will be provided to you on time during the trek. The major and somehow best foods provided are toast or chapati, eggs, potatoes, porridge, fried Mars Bars, and tea or coffee for breakfast; and rice, lentil soup, curried potatoes with vegetables, greens and papad for lunch. Light foods will be provided for dinner which will help maintain the balance of food and will not affect the health condition. The western meals like a burger, pizza, and oily foods, tobacco and alcohols should be avoided as far as possible. Accommodation will be on twin sharing local moutnain lodage. Bathroom is ourtside.

Permits and regulations  of Gokyo Valley Trek

For Everest Three Pass Trek, you will need TIMS permit and a Sagarmatha National Park permit. If you are going via trekking companies, those permits will be arranged by those companies. But if you are planning to go on your own, you will need to take your TIMS permit from Kathmandu, and a Sagarmatha National park permits from Monjo. Monjo is a village checkpoint that you will pass on the first day of your trek.

Trekking Plus field crews bring normal first aid kits on all of our tours, which is readily available for both customers and staff but we will recommend you to bring first aid kits yourself from your country because Nepalese medicine some time does not work properly. We are constantly in communication with our field office and monitor all aspects of government and weather issues that might affect your trip. Also, we are always available 24 hours emergency contact.

Drinking water

We will get mineral and boiled water along the trekking routes which is also an additional cost. We discourage not to buy Mineral bottle water but use boiled water from the local lodges and put water purify tablets. Plastic bottles are difficult to dispose off and have become an environmental problem in mountains.

What to take

Trekking Plus offers you a Trekking maps as a complementary and Company T-shirt.Trekking Plus would suggest you to pack as lightly as possible when you are on mountain. We provide one porter between two trekkers to carry your trekking gears. You will be carried your valuable things in a day pack by your own and your other bags will be carried by the porter in a duffel bag which we provided. Porter carries about 25 KG from 2 trekkers.
