About Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a small circuit trail in the lower part of the Annapurna region. It is one of the classic and the most stunning viewing point of Poon Hill is the prime destination of this trip. The hill offers a majestic sunrise over the sky touching mountains. A glimpse of the snow-capped peaks turning from grey to pink to brilliant white is just awe-inspiring. Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a relatively easy trek which can be done all year round, although autumn and spring are considered the most impressive. Witness stunning scenic villages settled by Magar, Gurung ethnic locals, lush vegetation, rhododendron forests, mountain streams and heterogeneous landscapes deemed nature's true delicacies of the region. 

Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is a popular trekking in Nepal, suitable for every type of trekkers, who love to explore the Himalayan short trekking as well as culture experience. During the hike we will experience lush forests of rhododendron and oak, beautiful settlement of Gurung and Magars, offers the Annapurna Himalayan panoramas, waterfalls, terraced rice fields and local people culture and lifestyles. 

Our Trek begins from Nayapul after a one and half hour drive from nature covered city Pokhara. Heading by the Bhurungdi Khola, it passes through the terraced rice fields, steep climb up at Ulleri, panoramic journey through the rhododendron forest, sunrise view from Poon Hill, ethnic culture at Ghandruk and finally returns to Pokhara. Poon Hill is located at 3210m above the sea level. It is one of the best hightlights of this hiking from where we will see the beautiful moutain view such as Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna (8,091m) Fishtail (6,997m) Annapurna South, Himchuli and other neighboring peaks. It is an awesome view of sunrise over the Himalayan range. The green hills, gorges and lush forests are seen from this viewpoint. Gradually, when the trip leads to the Ghangruk village, trekkers feel its a part of heaven. It is the habitation of Gurung, who are known as Gurkhas. Gurkhas have glorious history they created in the Second World War. It is surrounded by terraced farm lands. The ethnic groups have distinct language, costumes, rituals and lifestyles.

Best Time for Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Autumn season is considered as the best season for trekking in Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. The weather could be unpredictable at the higher altitudes but, every season has its own beauty and uniqueness.

Spring Season - March, April and May
The weather is spring seson is warmer and the forest blossoms with flowers and you can see green trees on the track. Springtime starts from the month of March and ends in May. The trekking trail will probably be crowded with a lot of trekkers at this time of the year but tt is the best time to enjoy the beautiful mountain views and landscapes.

Summer Season - June, July and August
Summer season is different in Nepal as it rains a lot and also called monsoon season. Pokhara, the starting point to Ghorepani Poonhill Trek, witnesses the most rainfall in the country. You just have to be prepared and plan your trek according to the season you are trekking. The hilly regions are moist and wet at this time of the year so the trekking routes are likely to get muddy and slippery.

Since it rains a lot, there is less crowded dust when its not raining and trail are pretty slippery. We will get the best view of the green landscape. The weather is quite harsh as it is sunny in the daytime and can rain anytime. 

Autumn Season - September, October and November
Autumn season is the best season to trek anywhere in Nepal including Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. The weather is warm in the daytime and quite chilly in mornings and evenings. The temperature might drop below freezing point up in the higher altitudes. The best time to trek in Nepal is in the autumn season and the best month is in October and November. The trekking is busy and crowded but the view is perfect ( white mountain and blue sky)compared to summer and spring season. 

Difficulty Level of Ghorepani Poonhill Trek - easy

Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is not considered to be a easy and short trek in Nepal as well as family trekking in Annapurna Regon. This trek is considered to be a moderate trek. Like Everest Base Camp Trek it is also demanding and the beautiful trek but with a bit of patience, Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is very enjoyable and achievable.

Trekking and hiking through the mountain mean that there may be the adventure waiting for you at every step of your walk. Ghorepani Poonhill Trek is also a very short hiking.

Meals

Trekking Plus serves you verities of wonderful Nepalese and Continental food during our trek. We will get western cuisine up in the mountain but which is not that free and good. We serve you local local cuisines for breakfast, lunch & dinner which is included in our package cost. Trekking Plus guide will suggest you a delicious, hygienic with special food during your trip. Normally it takes few days’ hard work to local porters and caravans to bring food to mountains. We usually have breakfast and dinner at the same Lodge where we stay overnight but  lunch will be serve en route.

Accommodation

Accommodation in mountain will be in a tea house or mountain local lodges which is basic standard.  We will get private room but shared bathroom most of the tea house but this days we get room with attached bathroom as well on lower altitude. In high altitudes, rooms are comparatively basic. Blankets are generally provided but we will recommend you to have your own sleeping bags. There is a large dining room where they use a wood fire burning so that the dining room is warmer. There is normally no electric most of the villages has hydroelectric power and a solar lighting. When we charge our electronic things than we have to charge at reception which we have to pay as well.

Drinking water

We will get mineral water and boiled water along the trekking routes which is also an additional cost. We discourage not to buy Mineral bottle water but use boiled water from the local lodges and put water purify tablets. Plastic bottles are difficult to dispose off and have become an environmental problem in mountains.

What to take

Trekking Plus would suggest you to pack as lightly as possible when you are on mountain. We provide one porter between two trekkers to carry your trekking gears. You will be carried your valuable things in a day pack by your own and your other bags will be carried by the porter in a duffel bag which we provided.  Porter carries about 25 KG from 2 trekkers. You can store you’re your luggage which you are not going to use it on trek can leave in Kathmandu Hotel which is free of cost. Please visit our FAQS for more details.
